- Joshua Baraka says he wants his music “to speak for him” and not be tied to affiliations or networks.
- His comments came after being compared to Eddy Kenzo during a UBC TV interview.
- The remarks have reignited debate over Kenzo’s international nominations and how they are earned.
Singer Joshua Baraka, one of Uganda’s standout performers both locally and internationally this year, has stirred conversation after seemingly throwing shade at fellow artist Eddy Kenzo.

During an appearance on UBC TV, where he was interviewed by Calvin Da Entertainer, Baraka was asked whether he would flaunt his awards if he were ever to receive major international nominations or wins.
Calvin referenced Eddy Kenzo, who has previously won several international accolades and secured two Grammy nominations — the latest being for the 2026 Grammy Awards.
In response, the Wrong Places hitmaker emphasized that he wants his craft, not external factors, to define his success.

“I want my music to speak for me. I don’t want my nominations or awards to be attached to anything else. Purely the music — that’s what should represent me,” Baraka stated.
Asked further about claims from some Ugandans that Kenzo’s songs and award nominations have often been boosted or credited due to the dancing in his videos or other networks, Baraka maintained that he prefers his artistic output alone to be the gateway to all his achievements.
He added that he does not want connections, affiliations, or behind-the-scenes networks to be the reason behind any future nominations he earns.
For years, Eddy Kenzo has faced public debate over how he secures his international recognition, with critics suggesting he has influential support working in his favor. Despite the claims, Kenzo has continued to rise and remains unfazed.
It is unclear how the Big Talent boss will react to Baraka’s latest remarks.
