• Big Tril argued that the project’s heavy lean into Nigerian-style Afro Beats is a misstep that could alienate both Ugandan and Nigerian listeners.
  • He explained that Ugandan fans may find the Nigerian-influenced sound unfamiliar, while Nigerian audiences are unlikely to embrace an artist they feel doesn’t represent their authentic vibe.

Local rapper Big Tril has shared his thoughts on how fellow artist and Gagamel bods Bebe Cool misjudged his latest album, Break The Chains. The former Baboon Forest Entertainment member expressed his belief that the album is unlikely to achieve significant sales.

Big Tril outlined several reasons for his opinion, drawing parallels to his own experience in 2018 when he attempted a similar approach.

He stated that Bebe’s album would not appeal to either Nigerians or Ugandans because it leans too much towards a Nigerian sound.

This implies that Ugandans may not resonate with it due to a lack of understanding, and Nigerians likely won’t connect because he doesn’t capture their essence. The rapper referenced his own attempt to adopt the Nigerian sound in 2018, which ultimately resulted in a major flop. This was partly because Nigerians tend to reject artists from outside who imitate their style.

He mentioned that he only regained his footing after going back to his roots with songs like Giddem and Party After Party, which became international successes.

He further remarked that if Bebe Cool had sought his counsel, he would have advised against pursuing this direction.

He suggested that whoever encouraged the Gagamel boss to embrace Afro Beats led him into a trap.

Currently, Bebe is engaged in a media tour to promote his album, which is performing reasonably well. He is scheduled to begin his global tour next week, starting with Nairobi, Kenya as the first destination.
