- Azawi has launched a scathing attack on Africa’s aging leaders, blaming them for the continent’s continued underdevelopment despite its youthful population and abundant resources.
- Citing greed, outdated mindsets, and disconnection from the reality of the youth, she questioned how 85-year-old leaders can plan a future they won’t live to see.
Swangz Avenue singer Azawi has criticized African leaders for the ongoing stagnation of the continent. The Masavu singer pointed out that Africa boasts the youngest population along with abundant natural resources.

Nevertheless, the persistent lag in development is attributed solely to the leaders in charge. She condemned them for their greed and their lack of innovative ideas for the continent’s advancement.
Many of these leaders are more interested in their own enrichment and are hesitant to confront the established order. She questioned how an 85-year-old leader can genuinely secure the future for those who are just 25.
The singer remarked that these leaders are largely disconnected from reality, making it impossible for them to create a future for young people whom they will not even be alive to witness.

She urged them to retire, return to their rural homes, and focus on enjoying their later years. This would be preferable to being chauffeured around the country, pretending to be agents of change while merely pursuing their own interests.
“The overarching issue in Africa is the presence of greedy, self-serving leaders. We have the youngest demographic and an abundance of resources, yet we remain significantly underdeveloped and plagued by poverty. The majority of our leaders are solely concerned with themselves and lack the courage to challenge the status quo. Why should an 85-year-old be traveling the country with escorts, misleading young people into thinking they will secure their future? What future can you guarantee when you won’t even be around for it? Just retire and return to your village, tend to animals, engage in farming, and allow your family to support you in your senior years,” she remarked.
The singer has long been vocal against the current Ugandan government. She consistently expresses her support for change and aligns herself with the National Unity Platform led by Bobi Wine.
Indeed, her political views have frequently placed her in conflict with numerous individuals, including fellow artists, as well as government supporters and politicians.
