• Maurice Mukiibi, a long-serving presenter at BBS Terefayina, has officially resigned from the Mengo-based television station to join active politics.
  • Mukiibi is expected to run for the Mawogola South parliamentary seat in Sembabule District under the Democratic Front led by Hon. Mathias Mpuuga.

BBS Terefayina presenter Maurice Mukiibi has officially resigned from his position at the Mengo-based TV station to pursue a career in active politics. Mukiibi, who has been with the station since its launch over ten years ago, made this announcement during his final broadcast.

He expressed gratitude to everyone who has supported him throughout his journey, including viewers, the station’s management, and his colleagues. Furthermore, he mentioned that he has gained significant knowledge from his role and looks forward to applying it in his new path.

“I want to express my gratitude to BBS Terefayina for providing me with this opportunity since its establishment. I have acquired valuable experience in my role and will never be the same again. So, I thank all the viewers, my fellow employees, and the administration of the TV station. Until we meet again,” he stated.

It appears that Mukiibi has been endorsed by Hon Mathias Mpuuga’s Democratic Front to challenge NUP’s Hon Gorreth Namugga in Mawogola County South within Sembabule District. The Democratic Front appears to be fully prepared to challenge NUP’s dominance in the Greater Masaka area.

The contest between the two candidates seems likely to be quite dramatic, as both sides have already begun trading verbal barbs. Given his association with the Buganda Kingdom from his time at the Kingdom’s official TV station, Mukiibi is likely to be a formidable rival for the incumbent.

However, Namugga certainly won’t be an easy opponent, as she continues to enjoy substantial backing, particularly from the youth who favor NUP in the region.
