• Cindy Sanyu will meet President Museveni to discuss allowing artists like Bobi Wine to perform regardless of political involvement.
  • The UMA president highlights the need to separate an artist’s political views from their music career.
  • Cindy shares her personal perspective, expressing hope to maintain her music career even if she pursues politics in the future.

Dancehall singer Cinderella Sanyu aka Cindy has revealed how there are plans for different artists to meet with President Museveni and discuss a variety of topics regarding their sector. The Ayokya Yokya singer said that one of the key points she wants to put across is if music and politics can be separated.

First and foremost, Cindy noted how she misses Firebase boss, Bobi Wine on stage. She stated that since the two have a song together, it would have been beautiful to have him occasionally turn up at her different shows so that they can perform the song together.

However, she says that she understands how the singer turned politician can’t be allowed on stage now due to a lot of protocols that are needed.

Therefore she hopes to raise the point of the State separating a musician and politician even if it’s one person. Cindy added that she sees herself taking the same root in future and would want to maintain her music career.

“I really miss him on stage especially for the fact that we have a song together. I would have loved to have him turn up on stage occasionally. But I understand the protocols needed now for him to perform especially ever since he joined politics,” she said.

“We are going to have a meeting with the President very soon and this is one of the topics I hope to raise up. I might also in future decide to join politics yet still want to maintain my music career. So I’ll talk to the President and see whether a person can be left alone to have their political views and music separated,” said the Uganda Musicians Association president.

However, while sanctioning Bobi Wine’s performances in Uganda, President Museveni said that he was tarnishing Uganda’s image on the international stage. And yet he wanted to return back and earn money from the same country he was calling bad.

It’s important to note that musicians who had previously had tensions with the ruling government has never been sanctioned before Bobi Wine although there were always tensions.
