• Chagga recalls Mowzey Radio’s near-death experience after being bitten by a stray dog that later died of rabies.
  • Radio struggled to find treatment in hospitals until a Chinese doctor in Jinja finally saved him.
  • The incident happened before his music career took off, with Chagga highlighting his humility and will to learn.

Veteran singer and former manager of the Goodlyfe, Chagga has shared one of the most troubling incidents in the life of the late singer, Mowzey Radio. Chagga recalled how the late was one time bitten by a stray dog while he was returning from lectures to his hostel.

Unfortunately this dog died a few days later and Radio was informed that it had rabies. Therefore if the Sweet Lady singer didn’t get any medical attention, he was going to catch the disease and eventually start barking like a dog too.

According to Chagga, they went to almost every hospital to look for medicine but were unsuccessful on all attempts.

They were directed to Mbarara but the doctor there told them how he didn’t have the medicine. It was on the 5th day of the 7 days they were given before Radio would catch rabies that they got someone to treat him and this was a Chinese man in Jinja.

“Some people don’t even know that Radio was once bitten by a stray dog as he returned to his hostel from campus. We were told that he would catch rabies in 7 days if he didn’t get treated because the dog died shortly after biting him. We looked for medicine almost everywhere to no avail. We lived the take of ‘there are no drugs in hospitals.’ We were directed to a doctor in Mbarara but he also told us that he didn’t have the medicine. It was on the 7th day that we got medicine from a Chinese man in Jinja. Radio who was already so terrified went there and got treated,” said Chagga.

The Makofi singer said that he did this before Radio even released any song or anyone knowing that he would ever become a star. Therefore his good deed wasn’t because he had seen something in him or because they were good friends, it’s because Radio was down to earth young man that was always willing to learn.

Additionally, Chagga said that he’s done equally many good things for other people although they don’t want to acknowledge it. He went ahead to claim that it was even him who taught the late singer how to drive and some other studio basics.
