• Katongole Omutongole joined Uganda’s media industry in 2001, working on top stations like Beat FM, Simba FM, Record TV, and Bukedde.
  • After unsuccessful political ambitions in Kayunga, he decided to leave media and pursue new opportunities abroad.
  • He relocated to the US, revealing he always keeps a plan A and B, with Uganda as his long-term fallback option.

Veteran former media personality Katongole Omutongole, has shared why he decided to leave his budding media career in Uganda and depart for the US. While speaking to another Ugandan media personality who departed for the US, Isaac Kawalya Kayz, Katongole said that he joined the industry in 2001 and initially planned to work for ten years before moving into politics. He was unsuccessful though in his political attempts he had plans of staying for 10 years too.

When the political plan failed, he stayed in media for over a decade, ending his career at Bukedde. By the time he left, Katongole felt it was time to step aside and give younger talents a chance to shine. After leaving the media, he planned to travel to the United States.

He further added that he always has plan A and B. This he considers a fall back option in case one plan fails. Additionally Katongole said while in the media, he always juggled TV and radio as his two plans. Furthermore, he said that even while in the US, Uganda is his fall back plan.

This is why he works so hard to make sure that things work out. He said that he wanted to be like Peter Ssematimba by having his huge media empire on his retirement age.

“Apparently I joined the media in 2001 and planned to stay in it for a decade and then go to politics for another decade. Things however didn’t work out in politics and I was dragged backwards. But luckily I always have a plan A and B in case things don’t work out in one stage. In Uganda, I always juggled radio and TV in case one failed, I would have back up. Even while here in the US, I have Uganda as my fall back plan,” he said.

It should be noted that Katongole was one of the most popular and recognizable voices on Ugandan airwaves. He worked for several media stations such as Beat FM, Simba FM, Record TV and Bukedde.

In politics, he tried vying for the MP seat of Bbale county in Kayunga district and the LCV seat of the same district but failed on all attempts.
