Legendary Ugandan singer Dr. Jose Chameleone has opened up on why he loves and supports President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. The Leone Island boss, who has for years been one of the most ardent entertainers backing the NRM party, says his support is rooted in admiration, not financial gain.

While speaking in an interview with former Bukedde FM presenter Masembe, Chameleone clarified that his loyalty to the President is not because Museveni once paid his medical bills, but for a number of deeper reasons.

According to the Valu Valu hitmaker, he has grown up entirely in Museveni’s era and has seen the country transform under his leadership. He described the President as a great statesman and a man of admirable discipline, adding that anyone aspiring for greatness can learn valuable lessons from him.

Chameleone also marvelled at Museveni’s emotional strength, saying he often wonders if the President even has emotions because of how calmly he handles criticism.

“I support President Museveni and the NRM for many reasons — not because he paid my hospital bills. He’s a great man, and I’ve grown up in his time. Sometimes I wonder if he even has emotions; the way he ignores abuse is amazing. If I were in his shoes, many of my friends would be in jail because they annoy me,” he joked.

The singer revealed that his family embraces political diversity — his father supports the Democratic Party (DP), while his younger brother Pallaso is a supporter of Bobi Wine’s National Unity Platform (NUP). He said this diversity shows how Ugandans can coexist peacefully despite differing political beliefs.

When asked if he would perform at a NUP event or for Bobi Wine himself, Chameleone said he would gladly do so if invited, describing Bobi as a friend and admiring his song Size Yo. However, he urged NUP to lead the country responsibly if they ever come to power.
