Ugandan singer and songwriter Joshua Baraka, known for his hit “Wrong Places”, says he’s already achieving most of the dreams he once had as a young boy — even though he has only been in the music industry for about three years.

“Most of the things I used to desire, I’ve done them. I always wanted to fly, and now I do that all the time. There are people I used to dream of meeting — and now, they’re my friends,” he said with a smile.
Baraka, who believes in teamwork, emphasized that success in music cannot be achieved alone.
“Music is not a one-man job. You need a team to help you with different things,” he said.
Reflecting on his journey, Baraka revealed that making it as a young artist was difficult because of logistical issues. This is why he therefore wants to support young emerging artists.

“When I was growing up, we didn’t have recording studios. The few that existed were expensive and of poor quality,” Baraka shared. “I want to support young talented artists by setting up a high-quality studio that they can use for free.”
The fast-rising star also pointed out that artists from other regions like West Africa and South Africa are investing more money in their music than Ugandans, which keeps the local industry lagging behind.
“The money our brothers from West Africa and South Africa invest in their music is way more than what Ugandans can afford. We’re still behind in that area,” Baraka noted.
Despite these challenges, Joshua Baraka remains optimistic about the future of Ugandan music and is determined to contribute to its growth.
