Beninese music legend Angelique Kidjo is set to become the first black performer from Africa to be honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The singer was chosen from a list of 35 individuals to receive this esteemed recognition in the 2025-26 Class.

At 64 years old, Kidjo was celebrated as the continent’s ‘premier diva’ when her name was announced. The five-time Grammy Award winner will be honored alongside well-known figures such as Miley Cyrus, former basketball star Shaquille O’Neal, actress Demi Moore, and actor Timothée Chalamet, among others.

The West African artist will be awarded her star on the iconic Walk of Fame in Los Angeles after an impressive career spanning more than forty years and the release of 16 albums.

Her talent for blending West African Afro beats with genres like R&B, jazz, and funk has endeared her to audiences worldwide.

The Agolo singer has collaborated with many renowned artists, including Sting, Alicia Keys, Burna Boy, and Philip Glass, throughout her remarkable career.

She follows in the footsteps of another African entertainer, Charlize Theron, a white actress from South Africa who received her own star in 2005. The specific date for the unveiling of her star has not yet been revealed.
