• Azawi says Bebe Cool frequently offers her performance gigs and respects her political choices.
  • She refuses to publicly endorse any candidate to avoid dividing her diverse fan base.
  • The singer condemns violence and harassment against NUP and calls for free, fair, peaceful campaigns.

Singer Priscilla Zawedde, popularly known as Azawi, has applauded veteran artist Bebe Cool for always wishing her well, especially financially during the ongoing political campaigns. While appearing in an interview with Frank Ntambi, Azawi said that the Gagamel boss often calls her to come and perform so she can earn some money.

The Masavu singer added that although Bebe Cool knows her political standing, he respects her choices and never pushes beyond limits.

“Shout-out to Bebe Cool because he always wishes me well. Whenever there is an opportunity, he reaches out to my camp and tells me to come and perform. He says, ‘You’re my daughter, come and make money and leave those things of opposing.’ However, he knows my political decisions and respects them,” she said.

Azawi, who has long been a government critic, said she doesn’t want to publicly endorse any political candidate. She, however, knows who she will vote for when she gets to the ballot box. Additionally, the Swangz Avenue singer noted that she has fans from different political parties.

She therefore doesn’t want to divide her fan base by endorsing anyone because it would seem like she is influencing them. The talented singer added that she stands for issues that are meant to better Ugandans and doesn’t intend to go fully political like some of her fellow musicians.

However, Azawi condemned the several incidents that NUP and its presidential candidate Bobi Wine have faced on the campaign trail, including being attacked by stick-wielding NRM supporters in Kiruhura.

She said campaigns should be free and fair without arrests of those opposing the government.
