A Story Rooted in Real Struggles
This emotionally charged performance captures the hopes, pain, and resilience of millions who migrate in search of better opportunities. Through a fusion of contemporary and traditional African dance, the production brings to life the emotional toll of leaving home, the realities of survival abroad, and the collective responsibility to build a better future here at home.
Performed by three vibrant female dancers and two live musicians, Curtsy of Cream honors all those who have left Uganda seeking a brighter tomorrow but instead met hardship and despair.

The Inspiration Behind the Piece
The idea for the production was born out of a true story — a close friend of choreographer Tereka Desire who shared her painful journey abroad. Her experience of broken dreams and exploitation inspired Desire to use dance as a way to spark dialogue about migration and leadership.
“Many young people leave with hope but return disillusioned,” says Desire. “This piece asks a serious question — should we always have to go abroad to find success, or is it time to demand better opportunities at home?”
