• South Sudanese musician Single Dee has spoken out about the unexpectedly high costs of collaborating with popular Ugandan artists Beenie Gunter and Sheebah Karungi.
  • According to Single Dee, Beenie Gunter demanded UGX 19 million, while Sheebah’s former manager, Jeff Kiwa, quoted a fee of $10,000 USD on her behalf.

South Sudanese musician Single Dee expressed his surprise at the steep fees two Ugandan artists demanded when he sought to collaborate with them.

During his appearance on NTV’s Da Beat, he named Beenie Gunter and Sheebah Karungi as the artists in question.

He shared that the Tubayo singer requested UgX 19 million from him. While he didn’t speak with Sheebah directly, her former manager, Jeff Kiwa, told him the fee was 10,000 USD.

The costs were exorbitant for the singer, prompting him to forgo the collaborations entirely. He remarked that if he had that kind of money, he wouldn’t need to seek collaborations with them; instead, he would invest in his own career.

“I recall when I reached out to Beenie Gunter, the price he quoted left me in disbelief. He asked for 19 million shillings, and I also approached Sheebah, but her manager, Jeff Kiwa, wanted 10,000 USD. I thought, why would I pay such an amount? If I had it, I would invest in my career and wouldn’t be in this position,” he stated.

It seems that many South Sudanese artists have partnered with various Ugandan musicians to enhance their careers.

There is a common perception that South Sudanese people are affluent, which may explain why these artists charged Single Dee such high fees.
