• Busiro County East MP Hon. Medard Lubega Ssegona caused an uproar among National Unity Platform supporters by declaring himself the party’s future president after Bobi Wine’s alleged two-term leadership ends in 2030.
  • The move has also fueled skepticism due to Ssegona’s association with former deputy president Mathias Mpuuga, whose recent fallout with the party over corruption allegations remains fresh in the public’s mind.

Supporters of the National Unity Platform [NUP] and dedicated fans of Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine are furious after Busiro County East MP Hon Medard Lubega Ssegona identified himself as the future president of the party.

While addressing his constituents, Ssegona mentioned that there was a consensus within the party that Bobi Wine would serve for only two terms.

“When Kyagulanyi’s two terms, which we mutually agreed upon as the leader of NUP, come to a close, the next president will be from Busiro, and that will be me,” Ssegona stated.

Since he took over party leadership in 2020, it implies that the former Kyadondo East MP’s term will end in 2030. At that point, Ssegona stated that he would assume leadership.

Nonetheless, many people dismissed this assertion, believing that the NUP is synonymous with Bobi Wine. Additionally, Ssegona has a close relationship with former NUP deputy president, Hon Mathias Mpuuga, who is now seen as an adversary.

This raises doubts about his loyalty to the party based in Kavule. Furthermore, he was not particularly vocal in support of Mpuuga during the controversies that led to his ousting from the party over corruption allegations last year.
