Singer David Lutalo has revealed that he is the one who helped give dancehall star Ziza Bafana his first real platform.

While appearing on a podcast, Lutalo was asked why he never ventured into dancehall music. When the interviewers mentioned Ziza Bafana as the kind of artist they thought he could have sounded like, Lutalo opened up about their early connection.
According to the Kapapala singer, he first met Ziza Bafana at a studio along Bakuli Road, where he had gone to record a song. The two interacted, shared ideas, and Lutalo was impressed by the young artist’s energy and raw talent.
“I told him he was going to be a star. He was very talented and lyrically powerful,” Lutalo said.

Lutalo explained that during the time he was working on a collaboration with Eddy Kenzo titled Mugumu, he informed Kenzo that he had discovered a promising dancer-singer. He then introduced Ziza Bafana to him.
He added that Bafana used to attend his Da Hares shows and would perform for the crowd even before people knew who he was.
Lutalo believes these early opportunities helped Bafana build confidence and visibility. Bafana would later rise to become one of Uganda’s most prominent dancehall artists.
