Prominent social media activist and academician from Makerere University, Dr. Jim Spire Ssentongo, has stepped forward to dispel the rumors surrounding the death of his elder brother, Dr. John Spire Kiggundu, which was announced yesterday, June 22, 2025.

Dr. Kiggundu was the founder and Executive Director of Henrob Hospital located in Zzana. Since the news broke, speculations about the circumstances of his death have emerged, with some suggesting he was attacked by suspected robbers, while others claimed he was murdered potentially due to his younger brother’s political stance.

On his X page, Spire expressed that although the timing is not ideal, he felt it necessary to clarify the truth regarding his brother’s passing.

He refuted all the rumors surrounding Dr. Kiggundu’s death, indicating that his brother passed away from a heart attack.

This conclusion was derived from a thorough postmortem examination, which indicated that Dr. Kiggundu was discovered a day after his death. Spire further clarified that, contrary to the speculations, his brother had no financial dealings with the Buganda premier, Charles Peter Mayiga.

“Though it may not be the right time amidst grieving, I just want to dispel of the harmful disinformation circulating around Dr John Spire Kiggundu’s sudden death:

  1. It is NOT TRUE that he was shot and dumped in a trench.
  2. He WAS NOT kidnapped by anyone.
  3. It is NOT TRUE that he was killed by anyone for political or other reasons.
  4. The post-mortem report (credibly done) shows that he died of a heart attack and was only found a day after.
  5. It is not true that he had ANY business relationship with Owek. Peter Mayiga. He was only a chief guest at the launch of Henrob Hospital in 2020 – which Kiggundu built over the years through very hard work from a one room clinic in 2003 to where it is now. It is named after his sons Henry and Robert.

Kindly disregard the disinformation that may cause unnecessary harm and hatred to others. Let John rest,” Spire Ssentongo addressed the media.

Dr. John Spire Kiggundu was a distinguished gynecologist, obstetrician, expert in endometriosis surgery, and a fertility specialist. His prowess in Minimal Access Surgery was widely recognized.
