• At the 2025 AFRIMA World Media Calendar Unveiling and Music Conference in Addis Ababa, Eddy Kenzo delivered a passionate call to action.
  • Emphasizing cultural pride, unity, and ownership, Kenzo advocated for an ecosystem where Africa owns its music distribution channels and tells its story authentically.

Award-winning musician Eddy Kenzo made a powerful impression at the AFRIMA 2025 World Media Calendar Unveiling and Music Conference held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Addressing fellow creatives, industry stakeholders, and media, Kenzo passionately advocated for African artists to unite in creating their own music streaming platforms, calling for greater ownership and control of the continent’s creative output.

Speaking to the audience, Kenzo emphasized the need for African artists, producers, and songwriters to take charge of their narratives and build infrastructure that reflects the continent’s cultural richness.

“Africa is a continent bursting with vibrant rhythms, soulful melodies, and unparalleled creativity,” he said. “Yet, despite owning the art and the culture, we often find ourselves fighting for space in the global market.”

Kenzo noted that one of the biggest obstacles facing African creatives is not competition but a lack of collaboration. He urged a shift in mindset, from scarcity to abundance, emphasizing that African unity is key to establishing sustainable systems that protect artists’ rights and preserve the continent’s unique artistic identity.

“We need to shift our mindset from scarcity to abundance. Instead of fighting for limited space, we should be working together as Africans to build our own streaming platforms, protect our rights, and invest in our craft,” he added.

Kenzo also encouraged artists to stay true to their roots, cultures, and languages, stating that Africa’s originality is its greatest asset.

“Our music is more than entertainment—it’s a reflection of our history, resilience, and future,” he said. “When we own the channels, we own the narrative.”

Kenzo also extended his gratitude to the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) for continually providing a platform that brings together the continent’s diverse musical talents and cultures.

“Your work inspires us all to keep pushing boundaries and to keep our roots alive,” he said in appreciation.

AFRIMA 2025 will take place from November 25th to the 30th in Lagos, Nigeria. It will be the seventh time that Lagos will be hosting the event.
