- Eddie Kenzo says NUP has lost its original direction and is losing popularity.
- Claims he was part of the movement’s early contributors before shifting to NRM.
- His comments have sparked backlash among NUP supporters, who accuse him of exaggerating his role.
Musician Eddy Kenzo has launched a scathing attack on the National Unity Platform (NUP), saying the party has lost direction, which he believes explains its declining influence.

Speaking in an interview, the “Sitya Loss” singer said NUP is no longer guided by the principles on which it was originally formed. Kenzo also claimed that he was among the early contributors to the movement before it became a fully registered political party.
According to him, he understands the roots of the struggle better than many of the current leaders. He added that some senior members in NUP recognise the “brick” he contributed, but since crossing over to the NRM, he can only watch as the opposition party “disintegrates.”
Kenzo said many longtime NUP loyalists still respect him because they know what he did for the movement, unlike “the new foot soldiers” who often attack him. He added that even when he travels, Ugandans tell him ow the party has strayed from its original direction.

“The foot soldiers should be careful when speaking about someone like me because the tree they are eating off the fruits was planted by the likes of me. Its like some new NRM cadres belittling Amama Mbabazi. In fact they should some of us the founding members and we advise them where they went wrong because we are the founders. many know what I added to the party and respect me unlike the few who shout n social media. they are slowly losing popularity but thankfully I jumped ship.”
The BET Award winner suggested that NUP should reach out to him and other early contributors who left the party so they can offer guidance on where things went wrong.
His remarks have sparked outrage among NUP supporters, many of whom say the singer is giving himself “too much self-importance.”
It should be remembered that the 2026 Grammy nominee was once a close friend of NUP leader Bobi Wine, but the two later fell out. Since then, Kenzo has become a vocal supporter of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the ruling NRM.
