• Eddy Kenzo says UNMF funds can’t support NUP-aligned musicians since they came from the NRM government.
  • States that UNMF’s partnership with government has led to achievements like a fully funded SACCO and regional offices.
  • Promises to renegotiate with NUP if they come to power, but for now aligns activities with NRM’s support.

Eddy Kenzo has explained whether his Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF), which he leads, would be willing to work with musicians who support Bobi Wine and the National Unity Platform (NUP). Kenzo has repeatedly revealed how he supports President Museveni and is currently one of the artists performing on the President’s campaign trail.

Reacting to the question, the Big Talent CEO said that despite supporting NRM, his vice president Pallaso supports NUP, as well as some other musicians. At that exact moment, Kenzo was asked if Pallaso and a group of other musicians who support NUP came and requested a budget to go and perform for NUP in the ongoing campaigns, whether they would be authorized.

He outrightly said that this would not be possible because the money they have was given to them by the NRM government. Therefore, there is no way they would go around to bite the hand that fed them.

“There is no way we can bite the hand that fed us,” Kenzo said. “The money we have was given to us by the NRM government.”

The Stamina singer then said that they sat down and negotiated with the current government. If another government or NUP comes to power, they will then sit down with it and renegotiate terms. But for now, all activities are mixed with NRM support, and that’s why they even composed an album for President Museveni’s campaigns.

“If another government or NUP comes to power, we will sit with them and negotiate. But for now, our activities are aligned with the NRM support,” he added.

The singer further noted that currently, the UNMF, with the support of the current government, has made great strides such as a fully funded SACCO and regional offices that are being set up, among others.

“We now have a fully funded SACCO and we are setting up regional offices across the country,” Kenzo emphasized.
