- Latif Ssebagala declares Nyanzi Fred Ssentamu unlikely to win Kawempe South despite NUP endorsement.
- The real contest is seen as being between Dr. Roy Ssemboga and Madinah Nsereko, who were denied the NUP card.
- Nyanzi’s reassignment from Kampala Central to Kawempe South by NUP SG David Lewis Rubongoya sparks criticism and accusations of nepotism.
Former Kawempe South MP, Hon. Latif Ssebagala, has poured cold water on Nyanzi Fred Ssentamu’s parliamentary ambitions in Kawempe South. Appearing on Sanyuka TV’s Morning Xpress, Ssebagala asserted that despite NUP endorsing Nyanzi, he has no chance of winning.

According to Ssebagala, the real contest is between Dr. Roy Ssemboga and Madinah Nsereko, both of whom were denied the NUP nomination. He argued that poor service delivery under the outgoing MP, Hon. Kazibwe Bashir, has left the constituents wary of further disappointments.
Ssebagala likened the situation to a patient being discharged from the hospital only to fall into another accident. “Even if spectacles were attached to that NUP card, Chairman Nyanzi cannot win. People cannot be recovering from Bashir’s mishaps and then handed Nyanzi,” he said.
It’s noteworthy that Nyanzi previously contested parliamentary seats but lost, including to Muhammad Nsereko. Initially for the 2026 elections, he aimed for Kampala Central, but NUP reassigned him to Kawempe South as Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya was chosen for Kampala. This is a move that has drawn criticism from party supporters and observers, some labeling it nepotism.
