- NUP has endorsed Eva Kyazike over Saudah Madaada for the Kampala Central councillor seat ahead of the 2026 elections.
- Madaada, a long-time NUP foot soldier and close ally of the late Hon. Ssegirinya, has expressed disappointment at the decision.
The ongoing vetting process by NUP is likely to leave many individuals feeling upset and disheartened regarding official endorsements. The party led by Bobi Wine has begun disclosing candidates who will represent them in the 2026 general elections.

One person who has already experienced disappointment is well-known foot soldier Saudah Madaada. She was hoping to secure the ticket to represent Kampala Central on the KCCA council, but it was awarded to Eva Kyazike instead.
It seems that Saudah Madaada has been a significant figure in the NUP struggle since the last election. As a close associate of the late Kawempe North MP, Hon Muhammad Ssegirinya, there was an expectation that her resilience and toughness would earn her some favoritism.
It’s worth mentioning that she has played a vital role in the party’s resistance efforts both on the ground and online. Often referred to as a General among the party’s foot soldiers due to her distinctive attire, Madaada may have to postpone her entry into the political scene.

Social media currently reflects her defeat, with some users celebrating while others have voiced their dissatisfaction, especially in light of her contributions to the party.
A significant portion of Shamim Malende’s supporters are pleased with the outcome since Madada has consistently aligned herself with the Zaharah Luyirika faction that is contesting for the Kampala woman MP seat.
Madaada even showed her dismay by removing a Facebook post in which she had praised the party’s secretary general, David Lewis Rubongoya, on the day the results were announced. It remains to be seen whether she will accept the loss or decide to run as an independent candidate.
