• Hon. Medard Ssegona accuses Bobi Wine and NUP of sidelining him after losing the Busiro East flag to Mathias Walukagga.
  • He recalls being among the first to support Bobi Wine’s presidential ambitions and defending him during arrests.
  • Ssegona says he feels betrayed after dedicating years to the NUP cause and being replaced by new entrants.

The Busiro East member of Parliament, Hon. Medard Ssegona has continued to express his bitterness towards the National Unity Platform, NUP, led by Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine. This is after he was denied by the party’s official card for the flag bearer of the same position in favour of Kadongo Kamu singer, Mathias Walukagga.

While addressing some of his supporters at his home in Buddo, Ssegona detailed how he was one of those people that brought Bobi Wine into politics especially to run for the presidency. He cited the 2018 treason charges levied against the former Kyadondo East MP saying that it was him who secured his release.

“It’s painful to be sidelined by those you lifted,” Ssegona said, his voice laced with frustration.

According to Ssegona, when everyone was worried not knowing where the NUP president was being taken after being bundled into a car, the former DP member offered himself to sit in the car and Barbie Kyagulanyi saying that it would be difficult to kidnap or torture the singer turned politician.

“When everyone was afraid to stand with him, I sat in that car with Barbie and Bobi. I knew my presence would make it hard for them to harm him,” he recalled.

Hon Ssegona added that he fought tooth and nail to get the aspiring presidential candidate out of jail not just once mentioning even when he was thrown behind bars in Nalufenya. Furthermore, the MP said that he was one of the pioneer members of the party. He even urged his fellows to all adopt the NUP membership card in the previous elections.

I was branded a gangster for standing with Bobi Wine — and now I’m treated like an outsider.

Ssegona went ahead to say that he withstood being dubbed one of those spearheading a political party by gangsters. Therefore nothing hurt him to see people who recently joined the party being prioritized above those who pioneered it.

It should be recalled that Bobi Wine also some time ago revealed how it was Hon Medard Lubega Ssegona who first sold him the idea of the presidency. Describing him as a proud egoistical man, Mr Wine said that he was shocked with Ssegona’s revelation due to the weight of the proposal but nonetheless gave it a thought and eventually adopted it.
