- iKON Awards has announced a new Uganda–Kenya movie collaboration under the O3Plus project, just months after their Nigeria partnership.
- The film, featuring Nicoletta Aber, Faith Kirabo and Nathan Katongole, addresses gender-based violence, teen pregnancy and transactional sex.
- Supported by UNESCO, Reach A Hand Uganda and Imara TV, the project continues iKON Awards’ mission to tell impactful African stories through regional co-productions.
When the iKON Awards team clinched a deal to co-produce a movie called Dambe — featuring Ugandans and their Nigerian counterparts — many assumed that was the end of their cross-border collaborations. Precisely, there was no expectation of another project so soon.
Well, we were wrong. Absolutely mistaken. News has now emerged that the team has once again secured a major collaboration, this time bringing together Ugandan and Kenyan talent.
Following the successful iKON Activate, Kenya edition, which took place last month, a new movie production has been launched, continuing iKON Awards’ mission to amplify African stories and foster regional collaborations.
While our cameras have yet discovered the official title of the film and the exact Kenyan actors to be featured, at least, we do know that the movie is sponsored by Reach A Hand Uganda, Imara TV and UNESCO, in partnership with iKON Awards under a project called O3plus, an acronym for Our Rights, Our Lives, Our Future.
