- Presidential aspirant John Katumba has pledged free housing for married couples and a sweeping elimination of utility bills in Uganda if elected in 2026.Â
- Speaking on local radio, Katumba emphasized family empowerment, promising free internet, reduced taxes, and a cost-free lifestyle for Ugandans under his leadership. His ambitious proposals come as part of an early manifesto rollout.
Aspiring presidential candidate John Katumba has introduced one of the more unusual incentives if he is elected to State House. During an appearance on a local radio station, where he has begun sharing his manifesto with the public, Katumba mentioned that married couples would greatly benefit from his government.

He stated that his focus will be on empowering families, which he sees as the foundation of any community. Thus, he plans to provide free housing for all married couples, leaving single individuals to fend for themselves.
“My administration will offer free housing to all newlywed couples because we aim to strengthen the family, which is vital for the nation. Single people will not receive support,” he explained.
In addition, Katumba, who is affectionately nicknamed Katumba Oyee, mentioned that there are even more appealing incentives he intends to introduce once he assumes the presidency.

He asserted that under his proposed government, citizens will no longer have to pay for electricity or water. Internet access will also be provided at no cost to everyone who needs it.
He added that tax reductions will be one way his administration will improve living conditions for people if he is elected.
It remains to be seen whether the public will embrace his proposals and choose to vote for him, especially given his previous underwhelming performance in the presidential election.
