Legendary Ugandan singer Jose Chameleone has reflected on his health journey, exactly one year after surviving a life-threatening illness that left him bedridden and shocked the nation.

Taking to video and social media, the Leone Island boss marked a year since he was hospitalized in the United States following serious health complications. The singer used the moment to appreciate everyone who stood by him during one of the darkest periods of his life.

Chameleone specifically thanked Ugandans at home and abroad for their prayers, calls, visits, and encouragement, noting that the overwhelming support played a key role in his recovery.

“Exactly one year ago today I was bedridden and fighting to get well. I want to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who prayed for me and stood by me through that difficult time. Your prayers, calls, visits and encouragement made all the difference.

To my family and friends — I’m so grateful for your love and support. And a very special thank you to Juliet Zawedde and family for the amazing care, kindness and strength she showed me when I needed it most. I wouldn’t be where I am today without you all.

Merry Christmas and a happy New Year to you all.”

The singer also acknowledged Juliet Zawedde, a Ugandan socialite based in the U.S., who hosted and supported him throughout his hospitalization and recovery. His brother, Weasel Manizo, was also by his side for the entire period, helping him nurse himself back to health.

Chameleone’s illness was later linked to liver complications, a revelation that was publicly shared by his son Abba Marcus Mayanja. The disclosure sparked mixed reactions, with some supporting the move for transparency, while others criticized the decision to make the matter public.

Since returning from the United States, Jose Chameleone has gradually resumed his career. He has released new music, made several public appearances, and performed at multiple events, including on the NRM campaign trail. His healthy appearance and renewed energy have reassured fans that the music icon is back to doing what he does best.
