- Joseph Kabuleta, president of the National Economic Empowerment Dialogue (NEED), has announced a grassroots fundraising campaign to support his 2026 presidential bid.
- Speaking at a press briefing, he emphasised public trust and past success with a similar funding strategy.
Joseph Kabuleta, the president of the National Economic Empowerment Dialogue (NEED) party, has disclosed the strategy they will use to secure funding for their presidential campaign ahead of the 2026 general elections. During a press conference, Kabuleta mentioned that they plan to launch a nationwide fundraising initiative.

The former journalist turned politician recounted that he implemented a similar strategy during the last general election, achieving considerable success.
He noted that the only area he didn’t visit was Karamoja, as he had been advised about safety concerns during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Kabuleta expressed his optimism about this initiative, asserting that both he and the party are well-liked, and he is confident they will receive contributions. He referenced the numerous phone calls and messages he received during recent media coverage suggesting that he had been suspended as party president.

“We are launching a nationwide campaign to raise funds for our political efforts. I believe we will successfully gather the required money because of the love and trust people have in us. I conducted a similar fundraising effort during the last election without a party and it succeeded, so I am optimistic about our chances now that I have a party behind me. The outpouring of support over the past few days, particularly following the claims of my suspension, truly surprised me, and I am sure we will raise the funds,” he stated.
Recent reports hinted at an official letter claiming Kabuleta was suspended from the party for 90 days due to various allegations. However, he clarified that NEED operates under a constitution and a spokesperson cannot initiate a suspension against him.
Furthermore, Kabuleta affirmed that he serves as the party president and chief spokesperson; thus, any official communications on behalf of NEED should come solely from him.
He reiterated his position as party president until 2030 and confirmed that he will be the designated flag bearer for the 2026 general elections.
