Hon Ronald Balimwezo, the current Member of Parliament for Nakawa East, has surprised many online after sharing a startling story about how he entered politics. He recounted that in 2000, he experienced an accident in Lugogo that resulted in the loss of his leg.

When he arrived at Mulago Hospital, there were no medical personnel available to assist him, and he spent a significant amount of time without care. He claims that this ordeal inspired him to pursue a career in politics to bring about change.

“My leg was not always like this; it was the result of an accident in Lugogo around 2000. A car struck me, and when it hit a pothole, my leg was severed. After being taken to Mulago Hospital, I was left without attention for an extended period. This incident motivated me to engage in active politics to effect positive change in my community,” he stated.

Consequently, he ran for a councilor position and secured the role, which he claims he worked diligently to improve for his constituency.

However, the financial returns were not as anticipated, and he was advised to pursue a seat in Parliament instead.

Unfortunately, he lost the election in 2006 to NRM’s Fred Ruhindi, whom he believes did not actually win; he contends that Kenneth Paul Kakande was the true victor.

He then aimed to become the Mayor of Nakawa in the subsequent elections but faced defeat again at the hands of NRM’s Kalumba Ben Ssebuliba, an election he asserts he actually won but was cheated out of by the Electoral Commission, which announced his opponent as the winner.
