- Nyendo-Mukungwe MP Mathias Mpuuga has announced legal action against NUP principal Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine) and Makindye West MP Allan Ssewanyana, accusing them of defamation and betrayal.
- Mpuuga claims Kyagulanyi is running a smear campaign to cover up his own failures and has sacrificed loyal party members, such as jailed mobilizer Eddie Mutwe, for personal gain.
Mathias Mpuuga has lashed out at National Unity Platform (NUP) principal Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, accusing him of sacrificing loyal party members, whom he calls “foot soldiers,” for personal political gain.

Speaking at a press conference on May 7, 2025, Mpuuga announced plans to sue Kyagulanyi and Makindye West MP Allan Ssewanyana over statements made during a May 6 press briefing at the NUP headquarters in Kampala.
Kyagulanyi reportedly linked Mpuuga to the arrests and detention of Ssewanyana and the late Muhammad Ssegirinya, former Kawempe North MP.
“I have been insulted and blamed for too long. The lies being said about me are not true. I will not keep quiet anymore. We shall meet in court,” Mpuuga declared.

He accused Kyagulanyi of running a deliberate smear campaign aimed at tarnishing his integrity. “I want to feel for my friends, the foot soldiers, that your leader, Robert Kyagulanyi, is sacrificing you for personal gain,” Mpuuga said, pointing to the current imprisonment and reported torture of NUP mobilizer and Bobi Wine’s head of security, Eddie Mutwe.
Instead of focusing on securing justice for jailed comrades, Mpuuga argued, Kyagulanyi is diverting the public’s attention by launching attacks against him.
Mpuuga also criticized party members’ treatment of the late Ssegirinya during his health struggles. “Some people abandoned Muhammad Ssegirinya while he was suffering in hospital. Apart from his family, few offered genuine support. Some visitors only came seeking allowances or selfies for media attention, which has sadly become a trend,” he noted.
Reaffirming his position via social media, Mpuuga emphasised that the era of tolerating false accusations is over. He specifically referenced the 2021 Bijambiya (machete) killings in Masaka, which were recently mentioned by Kyagulanyi and Ssewanyana.
“The time for letting some characters irresponsibly mudsling, malign, and defame us is behind our backs. The time now is for those characters to account for the statements they make,” Mpuuga posted. “I have instructed my attorneys to file a suit in court, which will ultimately give Mr. Kyagulanyi and Hon. Ssewanyana an opportunity to tell the country and the families of the Bijambiya victims what they know about those killings.”
