- Mubarak Munyagwa, leader of the newly launched Common Man’s Party, has spoken out against claims that he sought a party ticket from NUP’s Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine).
- Munyagwa revealed he was offered the position of deputy in the National Unity Platform but declined, citing differences in principles and leadership vision.
The President of the Common Man’s Party, Hon Mubarak Munyagwa, has refuted claims that he ever requested a party ticket from Hon Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, commonly known as Bobi Wine, the head of the National Unity Platform. Munyagwa stated that he would not be guided by someone he perceives as not being superior to himself, which he also believes applies to Kyagulanyi.

Munyagwa asserted that he has not reached out to the former Kyadondo East MP seeking a party ticket, contrary to rumors. It’s important to highlight that Munyagwa previously served as the MP for Kawempe South on the FDC ticket but lost his last election to NUP’s Hon Kazibwe Bashir.
He explained that the only occasion he met Bobi Wine was when the musician-turned-politician invited him to his home in Magere, facilitated by MP Hon Francis Mwijukye.
During that meeting, Bobi Wine proposed that Munyagwa become his deputy and shared his plans and strategies, which the former Kawempe South MP found unappealing.

Munyagwa expressed that he could not join NUP only to create discord and risk being labeled a mole for Museveni. He maintained that it was wiser to refuse the offer, as he understood that Bobi could not bring any significant advantage to him.
“I have never once sought a party ticket from Bobi Wine and I will never do so, so if he claims I did, he is clearly being dishonest. I adhere to the principle of not collaborating or respecting someone I know does not match my capabilities. That’s why I used to have respect for Besigye, despite our disagreements. I can criticize President Museveni, but I would never show him disrespect. Therefore, there is no possibility of us being in the same party,” Munyagwa remarked.
He recalled an event when Bobi Wine invited him to his home, where his wife Barbie served them breakfast. Bobi had asked Hon Francis Mwijukye to invite Munyagwa and mentioned his plans while proposing that Munyagwa become his deputy.
Munyagwa declined and made it clear that he was not impressed. He expressed that he would prefer not to join Bobi’s party rather than be accused of being a Museveni mole.
With the establishment of his new party, Munyagwa appears ready to confront the People Power movement. At the launch of his Common Man’s Party, he criticized NUP for lacking political direction, accusing it of consistently attacking fellow opposition members.
