- Former Kawempe South MP Hon. Mubarak Munyagwa has officially announced the formation of his new political outfit, the Common Man’s Party, rebranded from the Uganda Economic Party.
- Rooted deeply in Ugandan and Islamic culture, the Olusaniya is commonly used to serve food like pilau to groups of people, promoting a spirit of equality and sharing.
Former Kawempe South MP Hon Mubarak Munyagwa has revealed plans to launch his own political party. During a local radio talk show, the former legislator announced that his party will be named the Common Man’s Party.

He mentioned that it was initially called the Uganda Economic Party but opted for a new name to better resonate with all Ugandans. However, what has intrigued many is the party’s symbol, which is a tray known locally as ‘Olusaniya.’
Munyagwa explained that just as the Lusaniya is used to serve food, especially among Muslims during the serving of pilau, his party will embody that same spirit.
He emphasized that when pilau is placed on a Lusaniya, people gather to share it together without discrimination, and anyone trying to eat alone is pushed away. He criticized President Museveni’s government for promoting inequality.

“I’m launching my new party called the Common Man’s Party, which was previously known as the Uganda Economic Party. Our symbol is an ‘Olusaniya.’ As you can see when food is served, everyone has equal access without discrimination; that’s the principle of our party. Unlike the discrimination propagated by President Museveni,” he stated.
Munyagwa also noted that the party was initially set to be unveiled this week, but because of the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF), with which he has close ties, unveiling their party at Katonga, his unveiling will take place next week.
Furthermore, he indicated that he will serve as the party president and hinted that the secretary-general is from Busoga. For additional information, Munyagwa advised citizens to wait for the official announcement.
