- Criticized by supporters of the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) and even his own father, Churchill defended his actions, explaining that as a student leader, he must represent all political views.
- Ssentamu Churchill admitted to being in awe of Museveni, citing his academic familiarity with the President’s biography The Mustard Seed.
It appears that MUK Guild President, Ssentamu Churchill James is only aggravating the wounds of NUP supporters with his latest comments. His previous interactions with President Museveni, captured in a video and photos that circulated online, led to backlash a few months ago where he was labeled a traitor, snake, and worthless comrade. NUP online activists questioned how he could stand alongside Museveni, a leader the party has long opposed.

The situation escalated further when his father, Nyanzi Fred Ssentamu, publicly criticized him and suggested he resign. However, what surprised many was Churchill’s response to the ordeal. He held a press conference shortly after, explaining that as a university leader, he represents individuals from various political backgrounds, not solely NUP.
In a recent interview with Mr. Henrie on Galaxy TV, Churchill shared that he was indeed in awe after meeting the President, as he had been familiar with him through his studies and had read his biography, The Mustard Seed.
Although he felt conflicted due to his father’s previous arrest by the government, he found it hard to overlook the President’s presence.

“To be honest, I was captivated by the chance to meet him. This is a person I’ve learned a great deal about both academically and through his own contributions. I found his book, The Mustard Seed, quite intriguing. Meeting the President brings with it a certain charisma, even though I was frustrated by my father’s situation. I was aware that my engagement would lead to criticism, but I realized that it would come from those who were not in my position and were unaware of my role,” he stated.
He also mentioned that he didn’t have the opportunity to converse with the President due to time constraints, though he noted that the President acknowledged him by saying, “So this is the kid,” referring to his lineage from the Kyagulanyi Ssentamu family.
Churchill added that his speech was intentionally omitted to allow the President ample time to visit the stalls at the exhibition.
