President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has applauded musician Edrisah Musuuza, popularly known as Eddy Kenzo, and State Minister for Energy and Mineral Development Phiona Nyamutoro for spearheading efforts to organize Ugandan creatives under the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF).

Speaking during the launch of the “Yoweri Music Album” launch for the 2026 general elections, Museveni praised the duo and the wider artistic community for coming together to form a united front.

“I want to congratulate Kenzo and Nyamutoro, and all the musicians, for finally getting a bit organized,” President Museveni said.

He noted that the government’s initial focus had been on stabilizing the country, restoring peace, and building key infrastructure. Culture and entertainment, he explained, were not neglected out of disregard but because of national priorities at the time.

“When we started, the country was in such a bad situation. We had to start with the basics—ensure there is peace, build some of the roads. But now, since you are organized, it is easier for government to support you,” he added.

Launched in 2023, the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF), led by Eddy Kenzo, has since become the official umbrella body for musicians across the country. This has provided a unified platform to engage with government and develop the industry.

In recognition of these efforts, the government has already begun channeling financial support directly to the organized group. In the just passed 2026/27 national budget, Parliament approved Shs 33 billion for the UNMF SACCO.

This funding is intended to provide loans, grants, and other financial relief to artists, helping them strengthen their craft and livelihoods.

Additionally, government has also through the years extended support to artists through different initiatives.
Museveni urged musicians to take advantage of this opportunity to grow both their talent and financial stability. He also encouraged them to use their influence positively, promoting unity and development.
