President Yoweri Museveni has donated modern gym equipment worth UGX 38 million to Kalerwe Boxing Club in Kawempe Division. This as part of his ongoing efforts to empower urban youth through sports as well as economic support.

This donation was delivered by the Senior Presidential Advisor for Political Mobilisation, Moses Byaruhanga. During the handover, he stated that the equipment was fully funded by State House after a request from the club.
“We went to purchase the equipment, and we ended up spending Shs 38 million. You should thank President Museveni for his support,” Byaruhanga said.
Additionally, the President also extended an additional UGX 10 million to boost the club’s Savings and Credit Cooperative (SACCO). This will allow members to access small loans in order to develop themselves.

“We shall monitor how you use that money. If it’s used well, we’ll add more,” he added.
Furthermore, Byaruhanga cautioned against misuse of the gym as urging members not to train criminals, but rather focus on self-development and discipline.
He went ahead to reveal that each ghetto SACCO in Kampala has already received UGX 100 million and encouraged youth to embrace government programs like Emyooga, the Parish Development Model (PDM), and upcoming boda boda loan schemes.
“With our boda loan, you’ll pay Shs 7.2 million for a bike worth Shs 6 million after two years,” he explained.
The CEO of the Boxing Club Ismail Sseguya, confirmed that the request had been fully met and pledged political support for Museveni.
Meanwhile Hajjat Madina Nsereko, aspiring MP for Kawempe South, also applauded the initiative. She called it a game changer for youth empowerment in the area.
Apparently, the event was attended by members of other Kampala boxing clubs, which showed great support for the initiative.
