- Nina Roz releases a video endorsing Moses Muhangi for Kampala Central MP.
- Her stance causes division within NUP, where she is a party flagbearer.
- Critics accuse her of disunity as the party’s Secretary General is also running for the same seat.
Singer Kankunda Nina, popularly known as Nina Roz, has stirred debate both on social media and within political circles after releasing a video openly endorsing Uganda Boxing Federation President Moses Muhangi, who is contesting for Member of Parliament for Kampala Central.

In the video, Nina Roz urges voters in Kampala Central to rally behind Muhangi, praising his character and leadership qualities.
“I’m calling upon Kampala voters to vote Moses Muhangi for the position of Kampala Central MP. He’s a personal friend and for the time I have known him, he’s a solid and well-standing man. I’m sure Kampala needs someone like him,” said the Muliro singer.
Her endorsement has sharply divided opinion, especially within the National Unity Platform (NUP), where she is a party flagbearer. Nina Roz is contesting for Woman Member of Parliament for Sembabule District, having secured the party nomination in October.
The tension partly stems from the fact that NUP’s Secretary General, David Lewis Rubongoya, is also vying for the Kampala Central MP seat. Nina’s public support for another candidate—outside her party—has sparked criticism from some NUP supporters, with calls for the party to reconsider her ticket, accusing her of promoting disunity.
However, Nina maintains that her endorsement is purely personal and based on her relationship with Muhangi, insisting she believes in his capacity to transform Kampala.
It now remains to be seen whether the party leadership will take action or let the matter pass. The Kampala Central race has attracted several contenders, including NUP’s Rubongoya, Abraham Luzzi—who has recently gained popularity online—Moses Muhangi, and others.
