Bobi Wine real name Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, the president of the National Unity Platform (NUP), has graduated with a Bachelor of Laws Degree from Cavendish University.

In a heartfelt post on social media, Bobi Wine shared the details of his journey. He recounted how, in August 2016, after much procrastination, he attended his first lecture at the International University of East Africa (IUEA).

Seven years later, his persistence paid off as he finally graduated from Cavendish University.

Bobi Wine expressed his gratitude to those who supported him along the way. He thanked his friends and family, acknowledging their crucial role in his achievement.

Among them was Sylver Kyagulanyi, who had encouraged Bobi Wine to pursue law school as far back as 20 years ago during their time at Makerere University’s MDD department. Despite initial hesitation, Bobi Wine followed Kyagulanyi’s example and finally completed his degree.

Bobi Wine also expressed his gratitude to Don Sheriff, a fellow law student who shared his passion for freedom and justice, and David Lewis Rubongoya, who had been a comrade since the first Constitutional Law lecture at IUEA.

His wife, Barbie Kyagulanyi, received special mention for her support. Bobi Wine revealed how her encouragement kept him from giving up, even during the toughest times. Her push, though sometimes inconvenient, ensured he stayed the course and completed his degree.

The journey was not without obstacles. Bobi Wine recounted how he missed graduation last year due to missing a few lectures in one course unit, which required him to retake the course for another semester. Despite the frustration, he embraced the challenge and waited another year to graduate.

Bobi Wine faced not only academic challenges but also external pressures. When news of his graduation emerged, detractors attempted to block his progress. Some individuals petitioned the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE), prompting an intense investigation into his academic records. Despite these efforts, Bobi Wine was eventually cleared to graduate.

Reflecting on this experience, Bobi Wine noted that he might have been the first Ugandan student to face such scrutiny. He expressed his belief that the regime and its supporters were likely disappointed to see him succeed.

In his post, Bobi Wine extended his appreciation to the Ghetto People, who continually challenged him to be his best.

He emphasized that his journey should inspire others to pursue their dreams, regardless of the obstacles they might face. He also paid tribute to his late mother, expressing comfort in knowing she would be proud of his achievement.

Above all, Bobi Wine thanked God for guiding him through every challenge and hurdle. His message concluded with a powerful affirmation: “God is great!”
