• Madder Kayz says Bebe Cool came to his studio looking for a female singer for a chorus—but Rema exceeded all expectations.
  • Bebe Cool was so impressed that he added a full verse for her on the song Cease and Sekkle.
  • He reportedly planned to push Rema to international stardom before their fallout when she began dating Eddy Kenzo.

Music producer Madder Kayz has revealed how songstress Rema Namakula landed her debut collaboration Cease & Sekkle with Gagamel boss Bebe Cool. Speaking during a podcast appearance, Kayz explained that Rema had always been a friend to him, and it was easy to recommend her when the opportunity came.

According to Kayz, one day Bebe Cool walked into his studio intending to record a new track. He had already written the song and asked the producer to find a female vocalist to handle the chorus. Kayz immediately thought of Rema and invited her to the studio—though he didn’t anticipate how well she would perform.

When Rema stepped into the booth and sang the chorus, Bebe Cool was blown away. Kayz says the Gagamel boss got so excited that he decided to write an entire verse for her on the spot.

“Bebe Cool looked at me and said, ‘This girl has something special—let me add a verse for her,’” Madder Kayz recalled.

The two quickly recorded the song, and Bebe Cool loved the final result. After completing the track, he called several of his close associates—including Champion Marvin, Tikie Tah, Crystal Fabulous, Omulangira Ndausi to pass by the studio and listen. When they arrived, he proudly played the song and introduced Rema as “his daughter,” emphasizing how impressed he was with her performance.

Kayz noted that Rema had long been within Bebe Cool’s circles, and the Gagamel chief had plans to push her toward international recognition. After recording Cease and Sekkle, Bebe Cool reportedly said he wanted Rema to dominate Uganda’s female music scene and eventually break into global markets. He had openly spoken about grooming her into a worldwide star.

However, the relationship later deteriorated when the Tonyt singer began dating fellow artist Eddy Kenzo and eventually left the Gagamel camp. This marked the end of what Bebe Cool once envisioned as a long-term mentorship.
