• Rebecca Kadaga has denied reports claiming she plans to contest for President of Uganda in 2026.
  • She reaffirmed her political ambition is limited to re-election as Kamuli District Woman MP.
  • The clarification follows NRM internal clashes and rising speculation in the Busoga sub-region.

The Office of the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Community Affairs, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga, has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging that she intends to contest for President of Uganda in the forthcoming general elections.

In a press statement issued on Thursday, Kadaga described the posters as “entirely false and the work of unscrupulous and ill-mannered individuals” bent on misleading the public.

“I wish to categorically state that I have no intention to stand for President in the forthcoming elections. I am only offering myself for re-election as Woman Member of Parliament for Kamuli District,” Kadaga clarified.

The clarification apparently comes at a time when Kadaga’s name has dominated political chatter following last month’s heated National Resistance Movement (NRM) Central Executive Committee (CEC) meeting.

It should be recalled that sharp exchanges broke out between Kadaga, President Museveni, and Speaker of Parliament Anita Among. This was in the race for NRM seconds National Female Vice Chairperson in which the Speaker emerged victorious over Kadaga.

Since then, tensions have been high in the Busoga sub region especially among her faithfuls. They are even planning a welcome ceremony for her some time ahead.

However, the press statement, signed by her Press Secretary Bishop Samuel, urged the public to treat such claims with “the contempt they deserve” and to rely only on official communication regarding Kadaga’s political ambitions.

Therefore this statement shows that Kadaga indeed let the bygones be the bygones although she felt undone by the NRM during the CEC elections.
