• Ronald Mayinja doubts Bobi Wine’s ability to lead Uganda, warning his presidency could set the country back.
  • Criticizes Bobi Wine and NUP for alleged political blackmail and marginalizing unsupportive musicians.
  • Mayinja, a former NUP member and government critic, is now a key performer for the NRM under President Museveni.

Singer Ronald Mayinja has expressed doubts about presidential candidate and musician Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, saying he lacks the qualities required to lead Uganda.

When asked whether Bobi Wine has the ability to become president—a position he is contesting for the second time—Mayinja stated that while anyone can technically become president, Bobi Wine lacks the leadership skills necessary to advance the nation. The Tulikubunkenke singer warned that if Bobi Wine were to assume office, he could potentially set the country back several decades.

Mayinja cited Bobi Wine’s perceived immaturity and ego as major obstacles, claiming that his leadership style is focused on trivial issues. He also criticized Bobi Wine and the National Unity Platform (NUP) for allegedly building their following through political blackmail, including their conflict with MP Mathias Mpuuga, whom they fell out with many months ago. Furthermore, Mayinja accused Bobi Wine’s camp of marginalizing musicians who do not support him, a practice he says reflects poor leadership.

“Anyone can become president and hold the title but few can possess presidential leadership qualities and this where Bobi Wine falls. He can’t take this country forward because he’s still immature. You can see the issues he focusses on such as fighting fellow leaders like Mpuuga or calling for discriminating of artists that don’t support him.”

It is worth noting that Mayinja was once a vocal critic of the government, with some of his songs receiving backlash. He later joined Bobi Wine’s NUP before switching allegiance to the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), where he has become one of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s leading performers.
