• Ronald Mayinja says Mathias Walukagga is poised to defeat Medard Lubega Ssegona in the Busiro East MP race.
  • He argues that Ssegona’s attacks have unintentionally boosted sympathy and support for the Kadongo Kamu musician.
  • Mayinja defends Walukagga’s Luganda communication and calls for youth discipline amid rising incidents of artistes being pelted with bottles.

Musician Ronald Mayinja has openly declared fellow artiste Mathias Walukagga as the likely winner of the Busiro East parliamentary race. Walukaaga is challenging the current area MP, Hon. Medard Lubega Ssegona, who is running as an independent after the National Unity Platform (NUP) handed the party flag to Walukagga.

The contest has since become one of the most closely watched, with both men running active campaigns. Ssegona has repeatedly taken aim at Walukagga, but according to Mayinja, the attacks have only strengthened the singer’s political support.

Mayinja revealed that Ssegona recently called Walukagga and congratulated him, expressing confidence that the “Tulepuke” singer is headed for victory. He argued that Ssegona’s comments—especially those belittling Walukaaga’s education or English proficiency—have instead created sympathy for the Kadongo Kamu star, which he says is a powerful force in Ugandan politics.

The former Eagles Production member added that Walukagga’s communication style is deliberate, noting that the Tuli Ku Bunkenke singer has always expressed himself in Luganda because that is the language of his art and the community he seeks to represent. He emphasized that Walukagga speaks English, but like anyone who rarely uses it, the accent can become heavy.

On the trend of artistes being pelted with bottles, Mayinja said such incidents were unheard of in past years and only surfaced recently. He believes the behaviour will fade as many of the perpetrators—mostly youth—are now being apprehended. He urged young people to behave responsibly, reminding them that “youthfulness is a stage that eventually ends.”
