The Speaker of Parliament Anita Among left the audience cheering during the 30th coronation anniversary of Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV after she pledged to pay the bride price once the 33 year old king finds a wife.

While addressing thousands of subjects and dignitaries at the colorful ceremony held at Karuzika Palace in Fort Portal, Among said she was ready to make a deposit for this cause.

“Your Majesty, you know I’m a cattle keeper. I pledge to pay all the cattle once you find a woman to marry. And this time, I’m going to deposit for that purpose,” she declared as hundreds of the audience cheered on even sparking a smile from the King himself.

The young monarch, who ascended the throne at the age of three, remains one of the world’s youngest kings. However, as he celebrated three decades on the throne, leaders used the occasion to remind him of his duty to ensure continuity of the Tooro Kingdom.

Several officials echoed the Speaker’s call, urging Omukama Oyo to find a queen who would stand by his side and strengthen the cultural institution. His mother, Queen Best Kemigisa had earlier on called him to give her more grandkids following the baptism of her first grandson, by the Princess, Ruth Komuntale.

Among who was representing President Museveni at the event also congratulated the king for his achievements.

“I congratulate His Highness on this milestone and thank the kingdom for its huge contribution to improving the lives of its people,” she said.

This anniversary which is known as Empango was marked with traditional rituals, cultural performances, and messages of loyalty. The highlight though were the calls from the different leaders to the Omukama to find himself a queen.
