Otema Brian Tom, the outgoing Guild Representative for the Bachelor of Medical Imaging Technology (BMIT) program and a Semester 7 student at ISBAT University, is no stranger to leadership and student representation. Beyond the classroom, he serves as an adjunct representative for the Faculty of Health Sciences and works as a neuroscientist with the Africa Innovations Institute while cross-training in neuroimaging.
Deeply involved in campus life, Otema is an active member of the ISBAT Quiz Club — which recently reached the quarterfinals in the New Vision Inter-University Quiz — and the ISBAT Tech Club. His commitment to collaboration extends beyond the university through his membership in the Association of Medical Imaging Technology Students (ISBAT), UMIRSA, the Imaging & Radiography Presidents Association, and the East Africa Radiography Students Association.

A Vision for ISBAT University
To Otema, the guild is more than a representative body — it’s the heartbeat of student empowerment. He believes in transforming the guild into a platform that listens, acts, and delivers measurable impact. If elected Guild President, he promises to cultivate an environment where every student can grow academically, socially, and professionally.
Key Priorities
- Restoring credibility and accountability within the guild.
- Addressing tangible student challenges that affect learning and campus experience.
- Building stronger, results-driven engagement with university administration.
Why He’s Running
Otema’s motivation stems from his direct experience within the guild, where he observed shortcomings such as low initiative, limited communication, and poor accessibility to student representatives. He also cites abrupt event cancellations, weak goal-setting, and underuse of extracurricular funding as recurring issues.
His campaign is built around addressing these gaps through structured planning, active communication, and transparent leadership — a guild that genuinely represents its students.
A Record of Results
- Expanded the skills lab with new radiology textbooks.
- Added anatomical display charts and skeletons to the lab collection.
- Secured a clinical rotation MOU with Mulago Hospital.
- Supported the Health Science Stars football team to victory.
- Organized an “AI in Marketing” seminar featuring Mr. Kevin Mulooza.
- Donated a tuberculosis X-ray film to ISBAT’s skills lab for educational use.
- Led the Faculty’s participation in the Family & Health Expo, producing promotional videos and portraits.
