The Ugandan music scene has been blessed with many memorable hits, but few have stood the test of time like “Where You Are,” a collaboration between Blu*3 and the Goodlyfe Crew.
Released 11 years ago, Lilian Mbabazi, a member of Blu*3 and a baby mama to the late Mowzey Radio’s, shared the backstory of how this song came to be during their exclusive interview on “The Sit Down With Juliana” podcast.

Initially, Mowzey Radio had written a song titled “Njagala Kuzina Nawe” for Blu*3. However, the group didn’t feel a strong connection to it, and Radio ended up giving the song to Leilah Kayondo instead.
This prompted Blu*3 to ask Radio for another song that would better suit their style and vibe. Radio responded by sending them the beat for what would become “Where You Are.”
Jackie Chandiru, another member of Blu*3, was the first to lay down her verse, followed by Lilian. Radio then joined them in the studio and added his verse. According to Lilian, the studio session was incredibly productive, as Goodlyfe managed to produce two hits that day: “Where You Are” and “Bread & Butter.”

Lilian shares an a moment where a random person commented on a girl’s appearance, saying “eh akawala ako kali fitting” (meaning “that girl is fit or looks good”). Radio immediately saw musical potential in the phrase and went on to record a song based on it.
The impact of Goodlyfe’s music, particularly the contributions of Mowzey Radio, extends far beyond their active years.
Radio’s talent for songwriting has left an everlasting mark on Ugandan music, with many of his songs still being enjoyed today. His ability to write for various artists and adapt to different styles has ensured that his music remains relevant and enjoyed by many.
