• Uganda Cranes have named a 28-man squad and already started preparations in Morocco.
  • The team drew 2–2 with AS FAR Rabat in a pre-tournament friendly.
  • Uganda faces Nigeria, Tunisia and Tanzania in a challenging Group C.

Uganda Cranes’ final squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations has been confirmed as the countdown to kickoff continues. Head coach Paul Put has settled on a 28-man team that will fly the national flag in Morocco, trimming his earlier provisional list.

The team arrived in Morocco a couple of days ago and has already begun fine-tuning preparations. As part of the buildup, the Cranes played a friendly match against Moroccan giants AS FAR Rabat, battling to an encouraging 2–2 draw that offered early signs of sharpness and competitiveness.

Put’s final selection sees goalkeeper Charles Lukwago and David Owori miss out after the squad was reduced from 30. One of the standout inclusions is youngster James Bogere, who recently represented Uganda at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar. The coach believes the forward’s performances at youth level have earned him a chance on the big stage.

AFCON 2025 marks Uganda’s return to the continental showpiece after previous appearances in 2017 and 2019. While those outings ended at the group stage, optimism is growing around this current squad as it blends experience with emerging talent.

Uganda has been drawn in a tough Group C alongside African heavyweights Nigeria and Tunisia, as well as regional rivals Tanzania. The Cranes will open their campaign against Tunisia on 23rd December in Rabat, a match that could set the tone for their tournament.

With preparations underway and confidence boosted by the AS FAR friendly, it remains to be seen whether the Cranes can finally break past the group hurdle in what promises to be a demanding pool.
