- Uganda is opening its borders and stadiums for CHAN 2024, the African Nations Championship, running from 2–30 August 2025.
- With 39 countries enjoying visa-free travel and fast-tracked visas for others, the Pearl of Africa is positioning itself as a welcoming destination for fans, players, and officials.
Uganda’s Government in partnership with the Confederation of African Football (CAF), has confirmed that entry visas for CHAN 2024 participants will be issued promptly and without conditions for all visa-required nationals.

Meanwhile, travellers from 39 visa-exempt countries can enjoy unrestricted entry and exit throughout the tournament.
A list of the Visa-Exempt Countries Include:-
“Antigua & Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Botswana, Burundi, Comoros, Cyprus, DRC, Eritrea, Fiji, Gambia, Ghana, Grenada, Hong Kong, Ireland, Jamaica, Kenya, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Malaysia, Malta, Mauritius, Mozambique, Rwanda, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Singapore, Solomon Islands, South Sudan, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, Swaziland (Eswatini), Tonga, Trinidad & Tobago, Tanzania, Vanuatu, Zambia, Zimbabwe.”

WHAT IS CHAN 2024?
The CHAN—or the African Nations Championship—is a football tournament that happens every after two years. It features African national teams comprising exclusively of players active in their domestic leagues. This helps to shine a spotlight on local football talent. The 2024 edition will run from 2–30 August 2025. It marks the first time in the competition’s history that three countries have jointly hosted together—and this time, they are:- Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
CAF earlier on announced that Tanzania’s Dar es Salaam based Benjamin Mkapa Stadium will host the opening match on 2 August while the Nairobi located Kasarani Stadium will stage the final on 30 August.
UGANDA’S HOST ROLE & MATCH FIXTURES
Meanwhile Uganda, as a co-host nation, will feature prominently at Mandela National Stadium, Kampala, where the following group-stage matches are slated to take place:
- 4 August 2025, 17:00 GMT: Niger vs Guinea
- 4 August 2025, 20:00 GMT: Uganda vs Algeria
Additional Uganda fixtures include:-
- 8 August, 20:00 EAT: Uganda vs Guinea
- 11 August, 20:00 EAT: Uganda vs Niger
- 18 August, 20:00 EAT:Uganda vs South Africa
Furthermore, Kampala will also host the third-place playoff on 29 August, with the final set for Nairobi on 30 August
