• Frank Gashumba explains why he was absent from adopted daughter Aisha Nabukeera’s kukyala.
  • He cites Baganda cultural traditions, saying attendance would strip him of his guardian role.
  • Gashumba also advised Ugandans to keep family issues private and off social media.

Frank Gashumba has for the first time come out to address the talk that has been crawling around about how he fell out with adopted daughter, Aisha Nabukeera. This followed Gashumba’s absence from her recent traditional marriage ceremony.

Opinions have been divided with many people bashing Nabukeera for not inviting her ‘guardian angel’ from this big milestone in her life. It’s important to note that the bond between the two started in 2006 when Gashumba adopted Nabukeera following severe body burns that had been inflicted upon her by her step mother.

The political and social commentator started looking after her, educated, clothed, housed and fed her like she was his own. It was therefore a surprise that Gashumba was nowhere to be seen in her ceremony.

Gashumba indeed confirmed that he took on the young lady when everyone was disgusted by her and clothed her. He however said that had he attended this ceremony, then he would have ceased to be Nabukeera’s guardian.

He said that in traditional culture, a daughter is supposed to inform her parents or guardians about her man so that the family can organize a traditional marriage ceremony. He questioned those asking why he wasn’t present about how Nabukeera would have invited her.

In the Baganda culture, a girl informs her paternal auntie how she’s met someone and then the auntie informs the father of the girl. The father then organizes a marriage ceremony in form of a feast. So in what capacity was Nabukeera going to invite me. Inviting me would have meant that I’m no longer her guardian but rather another random person.

Meanwhile Gashumba who this week announced the birth of his child with newly wed wife, Malaika Mutoni said that this child has already made one month. People have been congratulating the vocal radio presenter but he said that the news are not new as the baby was born on 11th August.

Gashumba cautioned people to learn how to keep their family and private matters out of social media. He said that the platforms are unregulated and full of all kinds of weirdos.

Therefore it’s only the likes of him who have thick skin that can withstand it. He cited an example of President Museveni’s grandkids who have just started getting known yet some are even over 25 years of age.
