- Jackie Chandiru says 90% of Uganda’s current music is “bubble-gum” and lacks lasting value.
- She prefers Sheebah slightly over Spice Diana but respects both for understanding what audiences want.
- Jackie says she avoids releasing new music because she refuses to “compete with bubble-gum musicians.”
Former Blu*3 singer Jackie Chandiru has ripped through the current music industry by labeling it a “90% bubble-gum music industry.” This stemmed from a question she was asked about her opinion on two of the biggest female singers currently—Sheebah and Spice Diana.

Jackie said that she likes both, although she seems to prefer Sheebah a bit more. She even listed some of the songs she enjoys from the two. She was then asked who she thinks is the better artist between them.
The Agassi singer said that both women are musicians who have mastered what the audience wants and always deliver it.
When asked if this is not dangerous for the industry—delivering what the audience wants regardless of quality—the veteran singer said that the music industry is “non-existent” and has been for many years.

She added that this is one of the reasons she, as a legend, cannot release music currently because she doesn’t have the energy to compete with “bubble-gum musicians.” Jackie said that she can still sing many of her old songs and they still resonate today. She argued that this is not the case with many current artists and wondered how she can let her kids listen to songs such as Ekisododo.
“The music industry has for long been non-existent because 90 percent of the music released is bubble-gum. Just like chewing gum—it’s sweet when you start chewing, but when you’re done, you spit it out because it’s no longer useful.
One of the reasons I haven’t released music in a long time is because I can’t compete in such an industry,” she said.
