Aged just 20 years old, Abba Marcus Mayanja now going by the stage name Marcus2Up is making waves in the U.S. underground music scene. The young Ugandan US based singer is proving that talent runs in the family but individuality matters even more.

Abba was born in Uganda but is now based in Minnesota. He has been developing his musical identity while navigating the weight of being the son of Ugandan music icon Dr. Jose Chameleone.
“I’ve been into music before I could even talk,” Marcus said in a YouTube interview.
“My dad was a huge artist, so growing up, I got to see how melodies, beat production, and the whole process worked. But moving to the States is when I really found my voice.”

Marcus, who came to the U.S. in 2018 with his mother and three siblings started making music as a form of self-expression.
“At first, it was just me experimenting, seeing where it goes,” he said. “Now, it’s a career I’m serious about.”
Despite early support from his father, Marcus stated that his mother was initially hesitant.
“She’s very conservative,” he explained. “She wanted me to go to college, get a degree, and live a stable life before chasing music. I still went to school, got my bio degree, and then started focusing on music full-time. The turning point was when people started recognizing me in public, it clicked for her.”
Apparently, Marcus’ music style has evolved over time with different influences.
“When I first started, I had heavy Uzi inspiration. But as I got older, I found my lane and what works for my voice,” he further said.

He also acknowledged the pressure of comparisons.
“Initially, it bothered me when people compared me to other artists, but now I see it as a compliment. If people compare me to someone like SoFGO, it means I’m on the right track.”
His upcoming project, Heaven Latiierra (Heaven on Earth), is fully self-produced, mixed, and mastered, and is expected to drop by the end of the year. Marcus said that it reflects his growth as an artist while staying true to his roots.
On the Minnesota underground scene, Marcus sees both talent and opportunity.
“There’s so much undiscovered talent here. The underground is becoming the new mainstream, but people don’t talk about it. It’s a matter of tapping into the right community.”
He adds, “A lot of artists who make it don’t necessarily make music for Minnesotans—they make it for themselves. That’s when you see originality shine.”
Despite being the son of a Ugandan superstar, Marcus is determined to carve his own identity.
“I’m creating my own path. My dad’s legacy is huge, but I want people to know Marcus Two Up, not just Chameleone’s son.”
With a growing fan base on TikTok and viral underground moments already under his belt, Marcus Mayanja is a name to watch. He’s proof that while heritage provides a foundation, individuality defines the future.
