- Uganda’s State Minister for Youth, Hon. Balaam Barugahara, says he became a millionaire by Primary Seven and a billionaire by university.
- Speaking in an interview, he recounted how his business ventures began in school, leading to real estate investments by age 28.
The State Minister for Youth and Children Affairs, Hon Balaam Barugahara, has revealed that he became a millionaire by Primary Seven (P.7) and a billionaire by the time he attended university. During an exclusive interview with New Vision, Balaam mentioned that he acquired his first housing units in 2007 when he was only 28 years old.

That same year, Ugandan billionaire and business tycoon Sudhir Ruparelia informed him that he had attained billionaire status by saving money from the now-defunct Crane Bank. At that time, he was pursuing his Bachelor’s degree at university, managing to study for one year while working for two.
The well-known events promoter also shared that while he was a student at Original Progressive Senior Secondary School, he provided them with beans and posho, even though the school’s owner had given him a bursary.
Balaam emphasized that making money is his passion, but he is committed to doing it ethically and not through theft.

“I became a billionaire by 2007 at age 28, which was also when I obtained my first housing units. I vividly recall my good friend Sudhir, who still owned Crane Bank, calling to inform me about this achievement. Honestly, I felt a sense of pride, but it was due to hard work, considering I was already a millionaire by Primary Seven.”
“Even during my time at Progressive Secondary School, where I had a scholarship from the owner, I was also involved in business by supplying them with posho, beans, and cooking oil. At university, I balanced my studies with entrepreneurship; I would study for one year and then focus on business for two years. Essentially, I enjoy making money, but I prioritize doing it the right way, without stealing,” he explained.
The Minister is well-known among Ugandans, particularly for his business skills. He has been a prominent figure in the entertainment industry for over a decade and runs several other businesses across media and production in Uganda and other East African nations.
